Answers to common questions about Fuel Log for iPhone and Android.

Frequently asked questions

How is my MPG calculated?
Fuel efficiency is measured between full tanks. When you log a fill-up with the "Full tank" switch on, the app takes the distance since your previous full tank and divides it by all the fuel you added in between (including any partial fill-ups). Partial fill-ups still count toward cost and volume, but they do not produce an efficiency figure on their own. You will see your first MPG after your second full-tank fill-up.
Why was a fill-up rejected or flagged?
The odometer reading must fit between its neighbours by date: higher than the fill-up before it and lower than the one after it. If you see a warning, check the date and the odometer for a typo (a missing digit is the usual cause). Open the fill-up to edit either value.
How do service reminders work?
Each reminder is set per vehicle as every N miles or kilometres, every N months, or both, counted from the last time the service was done. It becomes "Due soon" when you are within 10% of the distance interval (at most about 500 mi / 800 km) or within 14 days, and "Overdue" once the due point is reached. Mileage reminders are re-checked every time you save a fill-up. Date reminders send a notification at 9:00 on the due date. Tap "Mark done today" to reset the reminder and add an entry to the service log.
How do I export my data to a spreadsheet?
Go to Settings and choose Export. Fill-ups and the service log are exported as CSV files that open in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets; you can also export everything as a single JSON file. Values use your display units. The share sheet lets you save to Files, send by email, or AirDrop.
Can I change units?
Yes. In Settings you can choose miles or kilometres and gallons or litres; the choice applies to every vehicle. Efficiency is shown as mpg for miles and gallons, L/100 km for kilometres and litres, or km/gal and mi/L for mixed settings. Your fill-ups are stored in fixed units underneath and converted for display, so you can switch at any time.
What is free and what is Pro?
Free includes one vehicle, one service reminder and statistics for the last 30 days. Pro unlocks unlimited vehicles and reminders and your full history. Pro is a weekly subscription with a free trial, or an annual subscription, billed by the App Store or Google Play.
I bought Pro but it is locked on my new phone. How do I restore it?
Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you used to buy it, then go to Settings, open the Pro screen and tap "Restore purchases". Subscriptions are managed in your App Store or Google Play account settings, not inside the app.
Is my data backed up? Can I move it to a new phone?
Your data is stored only on your phone (see the privacy policy). Your phone's own iCloud or Google backup may include it. Before switching phones, export a JSON file from Settings and keep it somewhere safe; we are working on import for a future version.
